| As we had nothing to do today since our canoeing had been cancelled we decided to try doing a walk. Got a leaflet from reception and decided we'd go to Passage Peak which was about 2.4km away, 90 mins each way. So off we went. On the way up we saw a small kangaroo and two snakes but we stamped our feet and the slithered off. They were only little ones.
Then it got pretty steep - but we persevered, and then it got extremely steep with steps as high as Alice's knees. The last bit was definitely the most demanding. Eventually we arrived at the top, and it was definitely a very worthy view. You could see lots of the Whitsunday Islands all spread out in front of you, and if you looked in the other direction you could see the resort and the rest of Hamilton Island. So we sat up there and took it all in for a bit. Then when the giant wasps appeared and started to get a bit interested in people we thought it was time to start the descent. On the way down Justin spotted a big lizard - it was about a metre long. They're so well camouflaged that you only see them when they move.
Arrived back at the hotel very hot and bothered, so we went for a dip in the pool which was nice but very very cold. Then we sat by the pool on the shaded sun loungers and read books and drank beer. Very relaxing.
This evening we had dinner at the Mariners restaurant which was really, really nice. But we were so full afterwards we could hardly move. Luckily our lovely chauffeur driven buggy picked us up and brought us back to the hotel. We even saw a wallaby on the front lawn - a very wildlife filled day! Probably going to have another drink then pack our suitcases - off to Cairns tomorrow. |
