|Great sleep. Got up about 8.30 and had a shower - nice facilities. Breakfast was our own invention - sausages cooked in beer! It was absolutely boiling by about 10am. Anyway, we packed up and jumped into the car and set off.|
First stop was a lava cave which was nice and cool and had some birds nesting near the entrance. Then we walked around some of Lake Surprise, then drove into a crater and had a look at that.
After this we went on to the Grampians - a big mountain range - which is really nice. Unfortunately the "Wonderland" area was closed, but the rest was open, and first of all we went to Silverband falls, which are unusual becuase it's as if the water just disappears at the bottom - there's no river so it must just go underground - then on to Halls gap for lunch.
Then we went to the Balconies which are some rock shelves sticking out of the mountain over a fantastic view. You're not allowed to walk on them any more though - not that we would have wanted to!
Highlight of the day was the McKenzie falls which are big, beautiful waterfalls. We climbed down loads of steps, then across some stepping stones to watch the biggest waterfall cascading down the cliff. Very peaceful as it was a early evening and we only saw two other people who bothered to come all the way to the bottom. We sat there for quite a while, then back up to the top and to Melbourne, Trev's house.
